Port Metal Processing was started in 1986 by the late Blake McKnight, Sr.. In 1986, Blake was the last acting General Manager for National Steel Service Center's Houston, TX location.
Back in the 1980's, most domestic steel mills owned service centers. Due to difficult economic times during the mid-1980's, most U.S. domestic steel mills made a business decision to sell or close their distribution centers. In 1986 National Steel decided to close their Houston, TX facility. It was at this time Blake decided to buy the existing assets from National Steel Service Center and this began Port Metal Processing. Since 1986, Port Metal Processing has become a leader in processing flat rolled steel products along with warehousing various steel products and manufactured parts.
Painted Metal Products was started by Blake McKnight, Sr. and Joe Janiszewski in April of 2003. Painted Metal Products is a distributor of steel coils primarily to OEM's in the Metal Building industry. Since its inception, PMP has seen steady yearly growth by supplying flat rolled steel products too small to mid-sized Pre-Engineered Metal Building Manufacturers and Component Manufacturers throughout the Southern U.S.
PMP is not a "virtual" coil distributor nor do we roll form or distribute building components. These facts make PMP unique in today’s market place. With all the "hybrid" coil distributors in today’s marketplace linked to component manufacturers and pre-engineered metal building manufacturers, you just never know if you're buying coils from one of your competitors. PMP does not compete with our customer base. We let our customers do the roll forming. Today, Joe Janiszewski and Nancy McKnight are co-owners of both Port Metal Processing and Painted Metal Products.
